This client is an integrated paper service provider based in India, engaged in paper wholesale and label printing. It serves local end-user brands across FMCG, apparel, daily chemicals, and other industries. It requires frequent supply of specialty paper swatches in different grammages and textures for packaging and label sampling and selection.
Before partnering with Tonli, the client had long suffered from non-standard paper sample supply. Samples from previous suppliers often had grammage deviations, inconsistent batch color differences, and no clear identification. These issues not only prolonged the selection and confirmation cycle for end customers, but also caused rework due to mismatches between sampling effects and bulk production, directly damaging the client’s operational efficiency and market reputation.
Targeting the client’s pain points and business characteristics, Tonli provides a fully standardized paper swatch service following its standard sampling and shipping process for specialty papers.
First, demand reception and confirmation. We completely record the client’s company information and contact details, and clarify the product name, texture, color tone, and corresponding grammage of each required specialty paper item by item. We also proactively inquire about the client’s printing processes (such as hot foil stamping, UV coating, embossing) and end application scenarios, and provide adaptation suggestions based on paper properties, avoiding material mismatch risks from the very start of selection.
Second, stock checking and allocation. We first check the system for ready-made swatches and sample books with matching specifications. If no ready swatches are available, we arrange for the warehouse to cut samples from the same batch of bulk stock, with strict batch color difference verification to ensure sample quality is fully consistent with mass production. For custom-sized dummy samples required by the client, we arrange fast production through the sampling mechanism. During mass production, Tonli fully controls the entire in-house manufacturing workflow for base paper.
Our through-dye wet pulp process delivers consistent color through the whole paper sheet, eliminating white cracking at folded edges. High-precision steel roll calendering delivers a smooth, pinhole-free surface with superior flatness and smoothness compared to generic industry papers. We strictly control batch color differences, supported by a closed-loop full-line quality control system and batch sample archiving for traceability, ensuring uniform quality across all production runs. Our product lines, including black cardstock, FSC-certified paper, and gloss/matte coated paper, feature FSC forest certification and low-VOC eco-friendly manufacturing, complying with EU import and export regulations.
Third, paper swatch quality check. Every swatch delivered goes through three verification steps. We weigh each sheet with a precision electronic scale to ensure grammage (GSM) error stays within industry standards. We compare each swatch against the standard sample under standard light sources to confirm color tone and texture meet requirements exactly. We also conduct a full appearance inspection to eliminate defects such as scratches, corner damage, stains, and severe warping.
Each swatch is inspected for texture uniformity, color consistency, and flatness to guarantee sample quality aligns perfectly with bulk production:
Fourth, labeling and packaging. A dedicated Tonli sticker is affixed to the back of each swatch, clearly marked with core information including product name, grammage, texture, and batch number, facilitating the client’s inventory management and presentation to end customers. All swatches are packed in moisture-proof packaging to avoid moisture damage and deformation during international shipping and guarantee arrival quality.
The full set of swatches is arranged by color, uniformly labeled, and packaged in a standardized delivery format, ready for the client’s end-customer presentation and material selection:
Since the implementation of this standardized process, the consistency and recognizability of the paper swatches received by the client have improved significantly. The end customer’s selection and confirmation cycle has been shortened by approximately 30%, and the sampling rework rate has dropped notably. Clear identification and stable quality also help the Indian client better serve local mid-to-high-end brand customers and gradually expand its high-end specialty paper distribution and printing business. For international clients, standardized swatch service is more than just samples — it is the first impression of a stable supply chain and reliable partnership.
