GUCCI Shopping Bag Base Paper Cooperation Case
From 2019 to 2022, Tonli secured an official supplier position for GUCCI, a top global luxury brand, through a mature supply chain network. We supplied premium base substrates including embossed art paper and colored cardboard for the brand's full range of shopping bags. This partnership marked a major milestone for Tonli in the luxury packaging sector and proved that our specialty papers meet the strict quality standards of luxury brands worldwide.
As a leading global luxury label, GUCCI enforces the industry's most stringent standards for packaging materials. As the core substrate of shopping bags, base paper shapes the finished product's visual appeal, tactile feel and durability. The brand set rigid requirements for batch color consistency, surface smoothness, folding resistance, multi-process compatibility and eco-compliance, which standard packaging papers fail to satisfy. After multiple rounds of technical evaluation, GUCCI selected Tonli's premium specialty papers, including black cardstock, colored cardboard and embossed art paper, to match its classic black bags, beauty color bags and limited-edition embossed bags.
At the project's initial stage, Tonli formed a dedicated R&D team to customize fiber formulations, coating processes and calendering parameters to satisfy the luxury brand's strict entry criteria. After more than a month of iterative sample development, our products passed lab physical performance tests, on-press printing trials and full environmental traceability audits. We completed a joint sample approval process and obtained long-term supply qualifications.
During mass production, Tonli fully controls the entire in-house manufacturing workflow for base paper. Our through-dye wet pulp process delivers consistent color through the whole paper sheet, eliminating white cracking at folded edges. High-precision steel roll calendering delivers a smooth, pinhole-free surface with superior flatness and smoothness versus generic industry papers. We strictly control batch color differences, supported by a closed-loop full-line quality control system and batch sample archiving for traceability, ensuring uniform quality across all production runs. Our product lines, including black cardstock, FSC-certified paper, and gloss/matte coated paper, feature FSC forest certification and low-VOC eco-friendly manufacturing, complying with EU import and export regulations.
Our colored embossed art paper delivers stable substrate performance and seamlessly supports all high-end post-processing steps for GUCCI shopping bags. It performs flawlessly with custom spot-color full-surface printing, partial logo hot stamping, embossing/debossing, matte UV coating, high-precision die-cutting and edge folding & gluing. The coating boasts strong adhesion with no powder shedding or edge cracking, producing rigid, uniform, premium finished bags.
